I am writing to encourage you to approve the South Lake Union rezone proposal.

There are significant environmental, social, and economic benefits associated with this zoning proposal, which will contribute positively to the neighborhood, Seattle, and greater Puget Sound region. Council approval of the rezone will foster flexibility in height and design, and allows the area to grow without sacrificing the look and feel of today's successful South Lake Union neighborhood.

South Lake Union is an economic success amid sluggish economic times. Thousands of new workers and residents call South Lake Union home and millions of new tax dollars have been generated. By approving the rezone, the Council will promote continued growth in the neighborhood and additional tax revenues to pay for basic city services. I also support this rezone package because property owners will have to participate in the Incentive Zoning Program in order to get the increased height and capacity. Incentive zoning dollars will invest in important neighborhood priorities including: $45 million in affordable housing; $28 million in open space and transportation; preservation of over 25,000 acres of working farms and forests; and funding for child care. Lastly, the proposal establishes appropriate development standards to maintain key view corridors of Lake Union and the Space Needle from public viewpoints. This is most evident on the blocks across from Lake Union Park, between Mercer and Valley Street. One slender 240' residential tower per block will activate the park, bring much-needed amenities to the area, and yet still allow plenty of light and air to reach the sidewalk. The Seattle City Council should adopt the South Lake Union rezone because it maximizes the benefits of future growth for the neighborhood and Seattle. Thank you for your consideration of my request.
